Last year while I was getting the lovely Scottish larch boards for the bench installation¬†I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some home grown oak too. It’s been stored in the workshop since and finally found a perfect use for it with a bookcase for my wife’s craft room.

The boards were certainly not prime grade, with pippy, knotted and split areas but lent themselves perfectly to rustic waney edge style furniture and after some planing down the wood was transformed. With a coat of linseed oil the grain and character of the oak comes out even more.
