After enjoying making the waney edge oak bookcase I was asked to make a similar one as a commission. Instead of oak, this time I used Scottish larch, once a popular timber for carpentry but now fallen out of favour and only really used for cladding.

It planes up and finishes really nicely though, slightly more subtle than pine and generally it will lighten and grey slightly with age.

A really enjoyable project again and I’ve got a big of a bug for natural edge finishes and simple, clean designs at the moment.
